Vigilante, 2 others arrested for burglary in Niger state as police recover 30 phones, generator and solar batteries



Wednesday, July 30, 2025 - The Niger State Police Command has arrested a vigilante, Shuaibu Rabiu and two others for conspiracy, housebreaking and theft.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, July 29, said one power generator, 30 handsets, SIM cards and 145 wraps of cannabis were recovered from the suspect. 

“On 17th July, 2025 at 9.30am, a report of house-breaking and theft was received at Maje Div, from Kaduna Road that unknown persons broke into a dwelling house and made away with one unregistered Jincheng motorcycle, power generator and other items,” the statement read.

"The following day, the generator was traced to the room of a neighbor known as Baban-Rimi presently at large.

"The room was later forced open by his guardian and the generator was recovered. 

"In the course of investigation, three suspects were arrested in connection with the crime; Shiaibu Rabiu 26yrs of Hayi-Kaduna, Shamsudeen Isah 24yrs of Deidei, FCT and Ahmad Hussain of the same Deidei, Abuja.

"During investigation, based on credible intelligence, Shuaibu Rabiu was arrested as a vigilante member of the community, and on reasonable grounds of being a collaborator to the gang. 

"In the course of interrogation, he mentioned Shamsudeen as one of the syndicate members, while Ahmad Hussain was equally arrested as a receiver of stolen items.

“They confessed further to other incidents house-breaking and theft, and mentioned Buhari Jaguar, Dan-Boko as part of their receivers.”

"Items recovered include; one power generator, Thirty handsets, eight SIM cards, two solar batteries,145 wraps of cannabis, 10 bottles of codeine syrup, face masks and other items.

“However, the suspects are under investigation, effort is ongoing to arrest others fleeing members and recover more of the stolen items,” the PPRO added.
