Friday, July 18, 2025 - The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one Kayode Oluwaseunfunmi for impregnating his 14-year-old daughter in Oluyole Local Council of the state.
A government official who confirmed to the Guardian on
Thursday, July 17, 2025 stated that some individuals rescued the survivor and
reported the case to a journalist.
According to the source, the journalist reported the father
to police officers who arrested the man and transferred the case to the State
Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) for further investigation while the
victim was taken to an orphanage home.
The teenager, whose name was withheld for legal and ethical
reasons, disclosed that the alleged abuse began in December 2024.
Now seven months old pregnant, she revealed that since their
mother’s d3ath a decade ago, their father had been the sole caregiver for her
and her two siblings.
Due to the pregnancy, she was unable to participate in her
ongoing Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 examinations.
In an emotional appeal, the girl pleaded with the
authorities not to punish her father.
“I never wanted this to happen. My father has always been my
protector since our mother passed away, and I feel torn inside. He has been
there for me and my siblings by doing his best to provide for us,” she
said.
"Despite what he did, I still love him deeply. It’s
hard to reconcile with the person I know with the actions that have hurt me. I
don’t want our family to be broken apart by this situation; we’ve already lost
so much. I just wish things could go back to the way they were before all of
this. I hope people can see that there’s more to our story and that we need
support, not just punishment. My father made a terrible mistake, but I believe
there’s a way to heal without completely destroying our family. I want help to
find a path forward—to ensure that my siblings and I are safe and cared for. I
hope the authorities understand my feelings and consider what’s best for all of
us.”
Meanwhile, following an investigation, the suspect was
arrested and detained by the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID)
pending further legal action.
Also, the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social
Inclusion has initiated plans to rehabilitate the girl and ensure that justice
is served.
