Thursday, July 10, 2025 - Tech giant Google has rolled out a major update to Gmail, allowing users to unsubscribe from email lists with a single click, a move designed to declutter inboxes and give users more control over their digital communication.
The new feature, dubbed the Manage Subscriptions tool,
enables Gmail to automatically sort emails from active subscriptions,
displaying clear, one-click links next to those messages to help users opt out
effortlessly.
In a blog post announcing the update, Google’s Director of
Product Management, Chris Doan, acknowledged the mounting frustration many
users face from excessive subscription emails.
“It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of
subscription emails clogging your inbox,” Doan wrote. “With Gmail’s new ‘Manage
subscriptions’ feature, you can view and manage your subscription emails,
making it easy to unsubscribe from the ones you no longer want, all from a
single place.”
The feature is currently live for Gmail’s web users, with
Android and iOS users expected to receive the update later in July.
In addition to inbox management, Google is introducing new
artificial intelligence-powered protections to combat scam emails. The company
says the AI-based defences now block scam messages with a 35 per cent
effectiveness rate, representing a step forward in its broader email security
strategy.
The update follows recent alerts from major retailers about
phishing attempts that involve fraudulent emails requesting users to update
their payment information under the guise of membership renewals.
Gmail’s new tools reflect Google's ongoing push to enhance
user experience and security through smarter, more intuitive features powered
by AI and streamlined design.
