Tuesday, July 29, 2025 - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested no fewer than 32 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Bauchi State.
The Commission disclosed this in a statement posted to its
official Facebook page on Monday.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended in
a coordinated operation by operatives of the Gombe Zonal Directorate.
“Operatives of the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, July 25, 2025, arrested 32
suspected internet fraudsters,” the statement read.
The EFCC noted that the arrests were carried out in Sabon
Kaura and Gwalameji—two densely populated neighborhoods in Bauchi
metropolis—after credible intelligence linked the suspects to ongoing
cybercrime activities.
“They were arrested in Sabon Kaura and Gwalameji areas of
Bauchi, Bauchi State capital, following credible intelligence that linked them
to fraudulent internet activities,” the Commission stated.
The raid also led to the recovery of a significant number of
electronic gadgets and other items allegedly used in perpetrating the crimes.
Items recovered include several mobile phones—among them 15
iPhones, 9 Samsung devices, 3 Redmi phones, and 1 Infinix—as well as 2 iPads
and 8 laptop computers. Operatives also seized 4 Neonx Auto motorbikes, a
Peugeot 406 car, 2 PlayStation 4 consoles, a PlayStation 5, a Maxi E50KWH
generator, and a pistol.
The EFCC said the suspects will be arraigned in court once
investigations are concluded.
