Thursday, July 3, 2025 - As part of efforts to curtail the activities of bandits within the local areas, the Yobe State government has ordered the immediate closure of three weekly markets in Katarko, Kukareta, and Buni Yadi.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Security
Matters to the State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Brigadier General Dahiru
Abdulsalam (Rtd), it was explained that the action was to enable the
government, in collaboration with security agencies, to take proactive
engagements and consolidate the successes recorded in the ongoing
counter-insurgency operation in the state.
According to the statement, the temporary measure is for the
safety of lives and property of people in the affected environment.
“Although this decision may come with its attendant
consequences, it has, however, become necessary in our collective interest and
for the success of the operation,” the statement further added.
He promised that efforts are ongoing to hasten the operation
to minimize the pains of the temporary closure of the markets on the well-being
of the citizens.
The statement further pleaded for the support of the people
in the area in providing useful information about criminals in order to save
lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure.
