Saturday, June 21, 2025 - A housewife, Ifeoma Okafor, appeared before a Senior Magistrate’s Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Friday for allegedly threatening to kill her husband with a knife.
NAN reports that the defendant, a resident of Behind ECWA
Goodnews church, Gwagwalada, Abuja, is facing alleged criminal intimidation and
mischief.
The Prosecutor, Abdulahi Tanko, told the court that the
complainant, Mr Paul Okafor, who lives at the same address as the defendant,
reported the incident to the police on June 6.
Tanko alleged that on June 1, the defendant knocked on the
complainant’s door, and when he opened it, he saw her holding a knife.
He said the defendant threatened to kill him and also
threatened to stab herself due to a misunderstanding between them.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant broke one
of his window louvers, the value of which was yet to be determined.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions
of Sections 396 and 326 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Munir Sani admitted the defendant to
bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.
Sani ordered that the first surety must be a biological
relative of the defendant and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He ruled that while the first surety must also present
his/her National Identity Card or driver’s licence, the second surety should
present his/her statement of account.
According to him, the statement of account should contain
the bail sum as part of the bail conditions.
Sani adjourned the case until July 16 for hearing.
