Security operations rescue Nasarawa monarch from captivity



Tuesday, June 3, 2025 - The police in Nasarawa State have successfully rescued Emmanuel Omanji, the traditional ruler of the Dari community in Kokona Local Government Area, who was abducted by gunmen on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The state police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed in a statement that Omanji was rescued unhurt at approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025. According to the police, the monarch was found in the Panwasa Mountains near Mada Station, following sustained pressure from the Command’s Search and Rescue Team.

Omanji was kidnapped from his residence during a night raid by armed men who reportedly fired sporadically while carrying out the abduction.

“Immediately after the rescue, the victim was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and has since been reunited with his family,” Nansel stated.

The police also said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene. Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, extended his appreciation to members of the public for their timely support and information, which he described as crucial to the success of the operation.

He further commended the collaboration of other security agencies and local vigilante groups who assisted in the rescue mission.
