Monday, June 23, 2025 - Russian President
Vladimir Putin today condemned what he described as "groundless"
aggression against his ally, Iran following the U.S. and Israel's recent
strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.
‘This is an absolutely unprovoked aggression against
Iran,’ Putin stated during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas
Araghchi, who travelled to Moscow seeking support for mediation efforts.
Putin criticised the recent strikes as
"unjustified" and reiterated that Russia is "making efforts to
provide assistance to the Iranian people."
These comments followed Israel's renewed attacks on the
Fordow nuclear facility and various government targets in Tehran, with no
indication that the conflict is easing. Russia has condemned Israel's actions
and warned that attacks on nuclear facilities risk escalating chaos in the
region.
The Kremlin also accused the United States of opening a
"Pandora's box" with its strikes on Iran's nuclear sites, cautioning
that it jeopardises the "safety and well-being of humanity as a
whole."
U.S. President Trump referred to the airstrike by stealth
bombers in the early hours of yesterday as an audacious move that "took
the bomb right out of [Tehran's] hands."
During an emergency meeting of the Security Council, Moscow's UN ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia, issued a stark warning, stating, “No one knows what new catastrophes and suffering it will bring.”
