Please help my people — Heavyweight boxing Champion OLEKSANDR USYK sends passionate plea to president TRUMP

Monday, June 9, 2025 - World heavyweight boxing champion, Oleksandr Usyk, has made a direct appeal to former U.S. President Donald Trump, urging him to help end the war in Ukraine.

In an interview with CNN Sports, Usyk expressed frustration over the ongoing conflict and Trump’s campaign promise to resolve it swiftly.

“Donald Trump, please open your eyes, help my people,” Usyk said. The Ukrainian boxer, who holds the WBC, WBA, and WBO heavyweight titles, emphasised that Trump should be held accountable for his words.

“He said he’d stop this war in a day or a month. He’s not responsible for his words. Why does he speak?”

Usyk extended a personal invitation to Trump, asking him to visit Kyiv to witness firsthand the reality Ukrainians endure daily

“Let him come to Ukraine. I will give him my home and my security guards. Let him live for a week and see how rockets fly over it,” he said.

He proposed that Trump visit the war-hit districts of Obolon or Troyeshchyna in Kyiv, where civilian areas are under constant threat.

“Let him come secretly, so no one knows. Then he will understand what is happening.”

Originally from Simferopol, Crimea, Usyk was abroad in London when Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022. He immediately returned to Ukraine and joined the Territorial Defense Forces to help defend Kyiv.

His home in Vorzel was later occupied and looted by Russian forces during their brutal campaign in the suburbs of Hostomel, Irpin, and Bucha.

Despite the ongoing war, Usyk continues his boxing career and frequently visits the frontlines. His determination is fueled by wounded Ukrainian soldiers who urged him to “fight for the country.

As he prepares for a major bout against Britain’s Daniel Dubois on July 19, which could make him the undisputed heavyweight champion once again, Ukraine remains close to his heart.

“It’s difficult to balance when your family is in Kyiv,” he said, referring to his wife and daughters who remain in Ukraine. “But I know my Ukrainian people and soldiers will protect them. I’m focused on my fight — so I can help my country more later on.”
