Friday, June 20, 2025 - The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has intercepted a significant consignment of illicit drugs during an operation aimed at curbing illegal bunkering activities.
The seized substances, suspected to be cannabis sativa and
“Canadian Loud,” were concealed in “six jumbo-sized bags” and recovered along
the Ojikeiri River in Okrika Local Government Area.
In a statement on Wednesday, signed by the State Public
Relations Officer, SC Ihemnacho Umeado, the exhibits have been handed over to
the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and
action.
State Commandant of NSCDC, Joachin Okafor, commended the
command’s personnel for their vigilance and dedication, emphasising the
importance of “inter-agency collaboration”, as demonstrated by the seamless
handover to NDLEA.
Receiving the items, Assistant Commander of Narcotics,
NDLEA, ACN James Awoji, lauded NSCDC for the efforts and reaffirmed the
commitment of both agencies to “sustained cooperation in tackling drug-related
crimes.”
