Nigerian Army troops kill Boko Haram kingpin in Yobe

Tuesday, June 10, 2025 - Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, supported by the Air Component, have killed a key Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Malam Jidda, in a renewed military offensive in Ngazalgana, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The coordinated assault, which also resulted in the elimination of several other terrorists operating within the volatile Timbuktu Triangle, was confirmed in a statement issued Monday by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI.

According to the statement, Malam Jidda, who was identified as the Ameer of Ngorgore and Malumti villages, was neutralized during a joint ground and air operation on June 9, 2025. Troops engaged the insurgents in Ngazalgana, overpowering them with superior firepower. While Jidda was killed on the spot, several other fighters fled with gunshot wounds.

In a separate engagement, troops ambushed another group of terrorists in the Timbuktu Triangle, killing several during the ensuing firefight. The military said this operation was part of a broader offensive designed to flush out remaining terrorist elements in the region.

Additionally, clearance operations in Mallamfatori, Abadam Local Government Area—where troops recently neutralized insurgents—led to the discovery of more bodies and the recovery of a significant cache of arms and equipment. Items seized include AK-47 rifles, magazines, large quantities of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenade tubes, hand grenades, motorcycles, handheld radios, and other combat gear.

“These renewed offensives underscore the effectiveness of the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts by Operation HADIN KAI, backed by a highly efficient Air Component,” the statement read. It further reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defeating Boko Haram and ISWAP and restoring lasting peace in Nigeria’s North-East.
