Friday, June 6, 2025 - The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two police officers and the abduction of two individuals, a Chinese national and a Nigerian, following an armed attack on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The attack, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
June 4, 2025, was carried out by a group of unidentified gunmen. The assailants
reportedly stormed the mining site and fatally shot two officers of the Nigeria
Police Force: Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector
Tukur Ogah, both attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja. The attackers
also made away with the officers’ rifles.
In a statement released and signed by the Police Public
Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of
Police, Adekimi Ojo, the command described the incident as “heinous” and vowed
to pursue the perpetrators relentlessly.
“In addition to the heinous killings, the assailants
abducted two individuals: Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David
Adenaiye, a Nigerian from Kogi State, both of whom were working at the site
during the attack,” the statement read.
Commissioner Ojo condemned the brutal act and assured the
public that tactical and intelligence-driven operations were already underway
to ensure the swift rescue of the abducted individuals and the arrest of those
responsible. He noted that the police command is collaborating with other
security agencies and local stakeholders to enhance security in the area and
prevent further attacks.
“The command remains fully committed to the protection of
lives and property across the state,” the police spokesperson stated. “We
appeal to residents to remain calm and law-abiding and to provide credible and
timely information that can support the ongoing investigation and rescue
mission.”
