Monday, June 23, 2025 - Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has suspended Mr Mkor Aondona, his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning.
This follows his arrest by operatives of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The embattled aide was reportedly picked up over allegations
bordering on sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by his Chief
Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia ordered the immediate and
indefinite suspension of the adviser, pending the outcome of ongoing
investigations.
Governor Alia described the development as deeply troubling
and stressed that his administration would not shield any appointee found
wanting in criminal or unethical conduct.
“This administration was elected to serve with integrity and
discipline,” the statement read.
“Any official involved in acts capable of tarnishing the
image of government or eroding public trust will be held accountable.”
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and
accountability in public office, emphasising that all public servants must
adhere to the highest ethical standards.
He also reiterated the government’s resolve to protect the
rights and dignity of all citizens, particularly women and vulnerable groups,
and pledged continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure
justice is served.
The suspended aide is expected to make himself fully
available to EFCC and face the legal process without interference from the
state government.
