Wednesday, June 25, 2025 - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Bauchi State Command has intercepted a truck loaded with vandalised railway sleepers and arrested three suspects.
Spokesperson of the Corps in the state, ASC S.J Yusuf, who
disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, January 24, 2025 said the suspects
hid the 371 pieces of vandalised railway sleepers in bags of rice offals.
According to him, efforts are ongoing to arrest one Bashir
Bagobori, said to be the owner of the intercepted railway sleepers.
“On Friday 20th June 2025 at about 0300am NSCDC men on
patrol intercepted a truck with a registration number FGE 663XB loaded with
vandalised railway sleepers covered with bags of Rice offals, as disguise,” the
statement read.
"Preliminary investigation further reveals that the
Railway sleepers were removed from Gital Village of Tafawa Balewa LGA Bauchi
state, heading to Ilorin Kwara State.
"Investigations identified one Bashir Bagobori from
Sokoto state as the Owner/Masterminder of Intercepted Railway sleepers, though
he is at large but efforts are at top gear to get him arrested and face the
full wrath of the law.
"Three suspects arrested in connection to the crime
are: Anas Danjuma 'male' 29yrs (owner's representative), Malam Surajo 'male'
40yrs (Driver) and Alhaji Bille 'male' 22yrs ( Co-Driver).
“Exhibits recovered includes 371pieces of vandalized railway
sleepers, 210 bags of Rice offals and one articulate truck. But investigation
is on going to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to book.”
The state commandant NSCDC Bauchi State Command, Commandant
Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde while addressing the gentlemen of the press, commended
the effort of his personnel for their unwavering commitment towards
safeguarding national infrastructures.
He reiterated that NSCDC Bauchi state command resolve to get
rid of vandals and other forms of crime in the state.
He also warned perpetrators to either desist from such act or face legal consequences if arrested.
Oyerinde also implored the people of Bauchi state especially those that domicile in the area where these infrastructures are located to inform NSCDC or any security agencies with credible information whenever there's suspicious movement of individuals around them.
