Wednesday, June 4, 2025 - The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 suspected teenagers for allegedly terrorizing the Mushin area of the state through assaults, harassment, and theft.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s
spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects—aged between 14 and
16—were apprehended on Monday in the Ishaga, Awolowo, and Ojuwoye areas of
Mushin.
"The
command appreciates the feedback and concerns raised by members of the
community regarding the recent incidents of daylight assaults, harassment, and
theft from shops and innocent members of the public," Hundeyin said.
"These reports have prompted a thorough review of our operational tactics
and strategies."
In response, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr.
Owohunwa Jimoh, deployed additional tactical squads, Police Mobile Force (PMF)
personnel, and conventional police teams to Mushin and surrounding areas to
curb the criminal activities.
Hundeyin confirmed that normalcy has now been restored in
Mushin and across the state.
“Residents are encouraged to go about their lawful
activities without fear or apprehension. The Area Commander has also been
directed to meet with the two local government chairmen covering Mushin to
strengthen security deployment and enhance the protection of residents and
traders,” he added.
He further stated that raids on criminal hideouts,
identified black spots, and slums will continue until the areas are cleared of
miscreants. The suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged
to court upon completion.
CSP Hundeyin reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring
safety in Lagos and urged residents to report any suspicious activity to the
nearest police station, assuring that officers have been instructed to respond
swiftly.
