Thursday, June 5, 2025 - The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has dismantled several criminal hideouts around Gowon Estate and its surrounding streets, arresting 19 suspects linked to drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
The coordinated operation led to the discovery of a
substantial quantity of illegal drugs, including Colorado, Indian Hemp,
narcotics, and other prohibited substances.
Officers also found multiple bags of hard drugs hidden in
the boots of parked cars, exposing the depth of organised criminal activity
within the area.
Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele, who chairs
the taskforce, reiterated the agency’s resolve to rid Lagos of criminal
elements, particularly during sensitive periods such as the upcoming
Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
“This operation states our zero-tolerance stance on all
forms of criminality that undermine the safety and stability of our
communities,” Akerele stated. “The suspects will be thoroughly investigated and
prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
He explained that the latest raid is part of a sustained
crackdown targeting street-level crimes and illegal drug trade across the
state.
It marks the fifth major operation in an ongoing enforcement
drive to restore public order and environmental discipline in identified
trouble spots.
Akerele also urged residents to partner with security
agencies by reporting suspicious activities through the government’s ‘See
Something, Say Something’ initiative.
“Our mission is to ensure Lagos remains a secure and livable
city for all. We call on citizens to remain vigilant and actively support our
enforcement efforts,” he said.
