Friday, May 23, 2025 - Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been moved to a new prison facility following a violent attack that left him critically injured. The artist, currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, was transferred to California Men's Colony (CMC) near San Luis Obispo for safety reasons.
Sources told TMZ on Thursday, May 22, that Lanez was
relocated from the California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehachapi after
being stabbed 14 times, an assault that resulted in both of his lungs
collapsing. The attack raised significant concerns about his safety, prompting
prison officials to take action.
Lanez’s attorney, Crystal Morgan, told TMZ Hip Hop that her
client is recovering despite the severity of his injuries. “He’s doing fine,
considering everything,” she said. However, she added that Lanez was not
pleased about the transfer, having begun to build a support system at the
previous facility.
Photographs previously released from inside CCI showed Lanez
appearing settled among a small community of inmates. But according to sources,
prison officials concluded they could no longer guarantee his protection at
that location.
Meanwhile, Lanez’s legal team continues to push for a pardon
from California Governor Gavin Newsom. His attorneys are citing newly
discovered and allegedly mishandled evidence as grounds for clemency, in hopes
of overturning his conviction or reducing his sentence.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted in
December 2022 on charges related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in July
2020. He began serving his sentence in 2023.
