Monday, May 12, 2025 - The Kano State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping operation with the successful rescue of a 75-year-old victim and the arrest of a suspected kidnapper during a raid on a hideout in Bagau Town, Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, which took place on May 9, 2025, followed
what the police described as “foolproof intelligence” about the location of the
kidnappers.
According to the police, tactical teams led by the Officer
in charge of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad stormed the hideout and found
the victim, Abdulrahman Yunusa, bound and blindfolded.
“One Musa Tukur, a 23-year-old male from Kudan Local
Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested at the scene,” said SP Abdullahi
Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer in a statement on Monday.
“He was guarding the kidnapped victim, who was discovered
with his eyes covered with fabric and some body parts tied with rope.”
The police said the victim had been abducted from his
residence in Maigana, Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State on May 3,
2025, around 12:30 p.m.
The suspect confessed to conspiring with others to kidnap
the elderly man and demand a ransom of twenty million naira (₦20,000,000).
“The victim was rushed to the hospital for medical
attention. He has since been treated, discharged, and reunited with his
family,” the police spokesperson added.
Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers involved and thanked the public for
providing credible information.
“This success demonstrates our commitment to combating
violent crime in Kano State. We appreciate the trust and support of the
communities, and we urge residents to continue sharing useful information,” he
added.
