NOVAK DJOKOVIC and ANDY MURRAY terminate coaching partnership

Tuesday, May 13, 2025 - Novak Djokovic has officially parted ways with Andy Murray just 12 days before the 2025 French Open, ending a high-profile coaching partnership that began earlier this year at the Australian Open.

Murray, who retired from professional tennis in late 2024, joined Djokovic’s team in a move that stunned the tennis world. Once fierce rivals, the two legends teamed up in a collaboration that was met with excitement and nostalgia by fans across the globe. However, Djokovic’s form throughout the 2025 season has been underwhelming, prompting the Serbian star to make a change.

“Thank you, Coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun, and support over the last six months on and off the court,” Djokovic said in a heartfelt statement. “I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.”

Murray responded with gratitude, saying: “Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together and to his team for all their hard work. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.”

Djokovic has struggled in recent months, suffering early exits in major tournaments, including shock defeats to Matteo Arnaldi in Madrid and Alejandro Tabilo in Monte-Carlo. At the Madrid Open, Djokovic was visibly frustrated during a viral practice session with Murray, raising questions about his mindset and motivation.

At 37, Djokovic is now the last active member of the “Big Four,” with Murray, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer all retired. Yet, speculation continues to swirl about Djokovic’s future, especially after he hinted that this year’s Madrid Open might have been his last appearance at the tournament.

Following his Monte-Carlo loss, Djokovic admitted: “It was actually more like the worst day. Horrible feeling to play this way. Sorry for all the people who had to witness this.”

Despite these setbacks, Djokovic remains just one Grand Slam title away from a historic 25th major singles trophy — a milestone that would see him surpass Margaret Court’s longstanding record and cement his place in the history books.
