Monday, May 26, 2025 - Bureau
of Immigration (BI) officers at the Davao International Airport (DIA) in the
Philippines intercepted a Nigerian national attempting to enter the country
with fraudulent documents.
Chinecherem Emmanuel Ike was stopped by BI officers on
Sunday, May 25, 2025.
This action is part of the government’s commitment to
strengthening border security, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s
directive to step up vigilance and prevent foreign fugitives and public charges
from entering or settling in the country.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified the
passenger as 20-year-old Chinecherem Emmanuel Ike, who was denied entry last
May 17 after pretending to be an incoming student at a school in the
Philippines.
Viado confirmed that the individual was returned to his port
of origin and banned from reentering the Philippines due to his status as an
illegal alien.
"In addition to the falsified letter claiming he
intended to study business administration, the individual presented a dubious
email saying that he is coming to the country to study,” Viado stressed.
"The Bureau remains firm in enforcing immigration
laws,” Viado said.
“We have a duty to ensure that only those who comply with our laws are allowed entry,” he added.
