Saturday, May 24, 2025 - NBC Today co-anchor Sheinelle Jones is mourning the heartbreaking loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh, who passed away at the age of 45 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma — an aggressive and devastating form of brain cancer.
The sombre news was confirmed during Friday’s broadcast of
the Today show, where co-host Savannah Guthrie led the
announcement with deep emotion.
“There are
no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,”
Guthrie said. “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him... Sheinelle’s
perfect partner in life.”
Uche Ojeh wasn’t just a beloved husband and father — he was
also a respected consultant at UAO Consulting, where he worked for over a
decade. He and Sheinelle shared a beautiful love story that began during her
college days at Northwestern University, where she was a freshman campus tour
guide and he, a visiting high school senior. That chance meeting blossomed into
a love that spanned nearly two decades. The couple married in 2007 and raised
three children together.
His death marks a deeply personal tragedy for Jones, who had
been on leave from the Today show since December. In January,
she shared that she was stepping away to handle a private family health matter,
now known to be related to her husband's illness.
Colleague Craig Melvin shared touching memories of Ojeh on
air, describing him as a “hands-on dad” who was present for every soccer game,
recital, and school concert
“He loved
those kids more than anything in the world,” Melvin said. “He was proud. He was
that guy — the one cheering on the sidelines.”
Sheinelle has been part of the Today family
since 2014 and became a co-host of the show’s third hour in 2019. Her absence
has been felt, and now, so is the immense grief she carries.
Uche Ojeh leaves behind a legacy of love, quiet strength,
and devotion — to his family, his children, and his partner in life.
