Tuesday, May 13, 2025 - Hundreds of women in the Oyo-Iwa community in Kogi state on Monday, May 12, stripped themselves half-nak3d in protest over the incessant kidnappings in their community.
The indigenes are said to have deserted their ancestral homes following
what they termed consistent killings and abductions of their people by
suspected bandits terrorising the area.
The aggrieved women blocked the road leading to their community, carrying
placards with various inscriptions such as “our people are victims of repeated
kidnap”, “Oyo-Iwa is sidelined for development” and many such other issues
needing government attention.
The protesting women say they can no longer sleep with both eyes closed
for fear of attacks by suspected bandits, citing the recent kidnapping of the
Princess of the Oyo-Iwa community, Ruth Owonibi, as one of the many cases of
abduction in their community.
According to the aggrieved members of the Oyo-Iwa community, the
government will have to do something quickly before they are completely wiped
out of their ancestral homes.
They also appealed to both the Federal and State Governments, including
well-meaning Nigerians and religious leaders, to come to their aid and end the
insecurity threatening the peace and development of their community.
