Monday, May 26, 2025 - Veteran Nollywood actor Dele Odule is getting real about his behind-the-scenes struggles in the movie industry — and he’s not sugarcoating anything.
In a recent chat with Oyinmomo, the respected Yoruba actor
opened up on why he rarely produces films, despite his decades of experience on
screen. His reason? Money wahala.
“I’m not
good at producing. I’ve never been a good producer. A good producer must know
how to manage money, and I don’t know how to do that.”
Odule explained that while acting comes naturally to him,
producing is a whole different ballgame — one that requires strong financial
sense and strategic planning. And he’s honest enough to admit that’s not his
strength.
He revealed that he has produced about 10 movies in the
past, but he doesn’t even know if they made any profit. In fact, he’s not even
sure where the master copies are.
“If you ask
me about the master copies of those films today, I honestly don’t know where
they are. That’s another sign that I’m not a good producer.”
Despite this, he’s not shutting the door completely. He says
he’s still open to producing films for Netflix or cinema if the opportunity
comes.
But the real shocker came when he revealed that he was
blacklisted from acting for two whole years — and it wasn’t because of any
scanda
“I have been
blacklisted from acting for two years. I feel it happened because I was
becoming a threat, and they tried to deal with me by blackmailing me.”
While he didn’t name names, Odule hinted that politics
within the industry may have played a role. According to him, being vocal and
visible may have rubbed some people the wrong way.
