Monday, May 26, 2025 - A UK-based Nigerian woman, Uloma Nwogu, has gone public with a personal account detailing how she navigated a challenging encounter with the father of her children, whom she described as absent for years but later attempted to use her as a pathway to the United Kingdom.
In a post shared on Facebook, Uloma revealed that she
relocated to the UK two years ago with her children, having raised them alone
for six years. She described the migration journey as mentally and physically
draining, stating that she developed high blood pressure due to the stress of
single motherhood in a foreign country.
According to her, the children's father resurfaced in
January this year by messaging her on Facebook, expressing a desire to
reconnect with the children. After several conversations, he proposed to be
added to her visa in exchange for reimbursing her for the children’s school
fees over the past six years.
Uloma said she calculated the amount to be ₦7.9 million,
which he surprisingly paid within 30 minutes. “I cried so much because I used
to beg this man to pay his children’s school fees, and he would block me,” she
wrote.
Shortly after gaining access to the children, the man began
pressing Uloma to return to Nigeria for a court marriage, citing that their
union was only traditional and that he needed a legal marriage certificate to
aid his visa application. When she refused and blocked him, he allegedly
retaliated by involving her family.
“He went to arrest my mother and father, claiming they must
provide me, that he paid me for visa and I scammed him,” she wrote, adding that
her siblings are now handling the matter and challenging him to provide proof
of the alleged visa scam.
She wrote:
"I came to the UK alone with children, I have been
taking care of them alone for 6 years. I managed to Japa 2 years ago and the
journey nearly destroyed me. I even developed BP in the process of single
motherhood in this country.
Fast forward January this year, my children’s father showed
up in my Facebook inbox and wanting to talk to me. After several calls, I gave
him a listening ear. He said he wants to be in the children’s life and offered
me money to add him to my visa. But he will pay me back the Children’s school
fees in the last 6 years.
I calculated N7.9M and he paid in 30 minutes. I cried so
much because I used to beg this man to pay his children’s school fees and he
will block me.
He started calling to speak to the children. Just one month after he started
demanding I return to Nigeria for court marriage because it’s only traditional
marriage we did, so that he can apply for visa, I blocked him.
He went to arrest my mother and father, claiming they must provide me, that he paid me for visa and I scammed him. My brothers and sisters are dealing with him now: He should bring proof where I charged him for visa."
