Wednesday, May 28, 2025 - New details have emerged about Meghan Markle’s alleged fallout with former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful — and it wasn’t just about missing out on a cover.
According to multiple insiders who spoke with Page
Six and Daily Mail, the tension between the Duchess of
Sussex and the fashion editor started when plans for a September 2022 British
Vogue cover began to take shape. Markle was scheduled to give a keynote speech
at the One Young World Summit in Manchester that same month, and a feature in
the magazine was meant to highlight it.
A source says it wasn’t just about scheduling — Markle
allegedly came with a list of demands. She reportedly wanted full control over
the creative direction: choosing the photographer, writer, approving the final
edits, cover lines, and even pushing for a “global cover” — one that would
appear on both UK and US Vogue at the same time
“Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer,
final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue,” a source
told Page Six. “Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé.”
Markle then reportedly reached out directly to US Vogue
editor Anna Wintour to pitch the idea again. Wintour agreed to a Zoom call out
of courtesy, but the request was turned down. At the time, the magazine already
had Serena Williams lined up as its cover star.
Interestingly, Adele remains the only celebrity to ever
appear on both US and UK Vogue covers simultaneously — a feat Markle was hoping
to replicate.
There are conflicting reports, though. Another insider
claims that Markle never actually requested the cover — that it was Vogue who
had approached her several times, especially after her wedding to Prince Harry.
It’s worth noting that Markle previously worked with Enninful in 2019 when she
guest-edited the magazine’s “Forces for Change” issue, choosing to stay behind
the scenes rather than appear on the cover herself.
Ultimately, Markle did land a high-profile media feature in
September 2022 — but not with Vogue. She appeared on the digital cover of The
Cut, alongside Megan Thee Stallion, as she promoted her now-cancelled
“Archetypes” podcast. She was also slated for a Variety cover
that was later delayed following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.
As for Enninful and Markle’s relationship today? Reports say
they’re no longer on speaking terms. “Edward was furious to have lost the
project,” an insider told Daily Mail. “He could only offer a big
feature inside the magazine and online — but she turned it down.”
Enninful stepped down from British Vogue in February 2024.
