Wednesday, May 7, 2025 - A woman abducted from her matrimonial home in Gayi village, Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has regained her freedom after her family paid a ransom of N1.5 million and N20,000 worth of recharge cards.
The victim, Nafisa Bala Usman, was released on Friday and
picked up by her relatives in Goron Dutse village, Suru Local Government Area,
a considerable distance from where she was originally taken.
Confirming her release, Alhaji Dalhatu Gayi, the elder
brother of Nafisa’s husband, told newsmen in Kebbi on Tuesday that she was
found in stable condition.
He expressed gratitude to the Chairman of Kalgo LGA, Alhaji
Yahya Kuka, as well as family members and friends who contributed to the ransom
payment.
“We appreciate everyone who supported us, especially the
Kalgo LGA chairman, for their efforts in ensuring her safe return,” he said.
Gayi also called on security agencies to intensify
operations in and around Goron Dutse, which he described as a suspected hideout
for kidnappers.
He alleged that the abductors were mostly Fulani, working
with unidentified informants. According to him, they pose a serious threat to
nearby communities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kebbi State Police
Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
