Thursday, May 15, 2025 - The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old woman suspected of trafficking ammunition to terrorists operating in volatile areas of the state.
Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel
revealed the development on Thursday, May 15 in Lafia, stating that the
suspect, identified as Fatima Salisu from Funtua in Katsina State, was
apprehended in the Azuba area of Lafia. She was allegedly transporting the
ammunition through Keana and Doma Local Government Areas, with plans to deliver
them to criminal elements in Katsina.
“Acting
on credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed,
ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” Nansel
said
The operation led to the arrest of the
suspect and the recovery of 481 rounds of live ammunition—400 rounds of
7.62x39mm and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
Fatima is currently in police custody
and undergoing interrogation as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the
arms trafficking network and uncover links to terrorism and banditry in the
region.
Police described the arrest as a major
breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms proliferation and violent
crime across the state.
The Command urged the public to remain
vigilant and continue sharing timely and credible information with security
agencies to aid ongoing security operations.
