Monday, April 14, 2025 - A 25-year-old suspected cultist, Suberu Abdullahi has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, Ondo State for the alleged m8rder of one Rafiu Adedeji (pictured)
Abdullahi, whose address was not given was arraigned by the
Amotekun Corps before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni of an Akure Magistrates’ Court
on three counts of conspiracy, m8rder and membership of an unlawful
society.
According to the state prosecutor, P. O Nwafor, the
defendant and others at large, committed the offence on January 7, 2025 at
about 7:20 am at Ikare Junction, Owo, Owo Local Government area, Ondo
State.
Nwafor alleged that the defendant and others who are still
on the loose hacked one
Rafiu Adedeji to d3ath.
The charges read in part: “That you, Suberu Abdullahi, on
January 7, 2025, at about 7:20am at Ikare Junction, Owo, Owo Local Government
Area of Ondo State, did unlawfully k!lled Rafiu Adedeji, and thereby committed
an offence contrary to Section 308 and punishable under Section 319 of Criminal
Code Law, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. .
“That you, Suberu Abdullahi, on January 7, 2025, at about
7:20am at Ikare Junction, Owo, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, did
belong to a secret society (AVE) prohibited by law and thereby committed an
offence contrary to and punishable under Section 1 (1), Cultism, Secret Cult
and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, Cap 39, Vol 2, Laws of Ondo State of
Nigeria, 2006.”
The prosecutor told the court to remand the defendant
pending the outcome of the legal advice from the Directorate of Public
Prosecutions, (DPP).
The defence counsel, O. Adedapo prayed for an adjournment
for him to reply the prosecution’s application.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni adjourned the case to April 16,
for response and ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional
centre.
