Thursday, April 24, 2025 - A pregnant woman who went to a restaurant to order a salad was repulsed by what she saw in her plate of food.
The woman was served a katsu don set at Japanese restaurant
Tatsuya West Ryde in Sydney, Australia, and was already eating it when she
claims she saw a dead rat.
The customer, who posted a Google review under the name DO,
said she found the rodent in her half-eaten side salad.
The Sydney restaurant has apologised after her review was
posted online.
“I’d eaten half of it at this point. Just absolutely
revolting and unacceptable,” she wrote.
“Everyone who was present at the time, stood up and left the
restaurant.”
The woman’s friend wrote in a one-star review, adding that they did not
“even think I should be giving a star considering what happened today”.
“My pregnant friend and I were having their lunch set today and in her small
salad was a disgusting feral dead rat that was underneath the salad,” the
friend wrote.
The pregnant woman and her friend criticized the restaurant for continuing
to serve customers despite the discovery.
Daniel Kim, who wrote that he was the pregnant woman's husband, said: “My wife’s salad had a rat in it. Absolutely disgusting”.
Responding to Kim’s review, the restaurant said it
“sincerely apologised for this incident”.
“The issue originated from a delivered salad box which we
are currently investigating with our supplier and local food authorities,” it
said.
“We are taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents
and appreciate your understanding.”
Tatsuya’s owner told 9 News in a statement
that an incident was under investigation.
“Google reviews are based on personal opinions, not verified
facts,” they said.
“An incident did occur, and the cause is currently under
investigation.
“We have responded to the incident appropriately and are
continuing to follow up with additional measures.”
