Monday, April 28, 2025 - The Delta State Police Command has announced the killing of five daredevil kidnappers who had been terrorising parts of Delta State.
The specific areas affected include Ubuluku, Issele-Uku,
Issele-Azagba, and the environs of the state capital.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe,
disclosed that operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team, SAT, acting on
intelligence concerning kidnapping activities in the aforementioned areas by
one Bello Abubakar and his gang, stormed one of their hideouts in the
Agu-Amawbia forest in Anambra State on 21st April 2025.
He stated that during the raid on the hideout, operatives
recovered one AK-47 rifle and 132 rounds of live ammunition.
Further investigations led the team to another hideout
located in a forest between Issele-Azagba and Utulu, where Bello Abubakar and
his gang members were lying in ambush.
“The suspected kidnappers attacked the policemen in a fierce
gun battle, but the team, anticipating the confrontation, returned fire in like
manner.
“As the suspects could not withstand the operatives’
superior firepower, they fled in different directions with various degrees of
bullet injuries,” he stated.
Edafe disclosed that five of the suspects, including Bello
Abubakar, who could not escape due to the severity of their injuries, were
taken to hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
He further revealed that two additional AK-47 rifles and 18
rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the forest.
He assured that a manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is
ongoing.
