Saturday, April 12, 2025 - Nigerian troops operating in various theatres of operation have successfully repelled a terrorist ambush in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, neutralized several insurgents, and rescued kidnapped victims during a week-long series of coordinated offensives nationwide.
According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major
General Markus Kangye, the ambush was met with a fierce firefight, after which
troops subdued the attackers and recovered weapons.
Between April 3–10, 2025, military operations in Borno and
Yobe states led to the elimination of scores of terrorists and the arrest of
key collaborators, including nine logistics suppliers. Recovered items included
arms, RPGs, improvised explosive devices, and over N235,000 in cash.
In the Northwest, troops of Operation Fasan Yamma
neutralized terrorists across Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi states,
recovering weapons, rustled livestock, motorcycles, and rescuing multiple
kidnapped civilians.
Similar success was recorded in North Central and Southern
regions. In Plateau, Kaduna, Edo, Kwara, and Benue states, joint forces
neutralized extremists, rescued captives, and recovered a cache of arms and
vehicles. Notably, a wanted kidnap suspect was gunned down in Bauchi after
attempting to escape arrest.
Troops of Operation Delta Safe also dealt a major blow to
oil thieves in the Niger Delta, seizing over N869 million worth of stolen
petroleum products and destroying numerous illegal refining sites.
In the Southeast, troops of Operation Udoka neutralized a
notorious terrorist leader, Nkwachi Eze (aka Onowu), in Imo State, arrested
others, and recovered weapons, explosives, and propaganda materials linked to
secessionist groups.
General Kangye reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ resolve to uphold national unity, protect civilians, and maintain territorial integrity, commending the courage and professionalism of troops across all zones.
