Thursday, April 10, 2025 - The team leader, Year 2025 Nigerian Army Recruitment Awareness Team, Brigadier General Chima Ekeator has sensitized youths from the South East on the need to take up the slots given to the zone in the Nigerian Army recruitment.
Ekeator, who visited Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia on
Wednesday, said that the leadership of the Nigerian Army observed that the
slots given to the Southeastern States during recruitment were barely taken up
by applicants from the region, hence they were sent to sensitize youths from
the region on the need to take up the slots.
He regretted that the region is losing out during
recruitment exercises, citing a case of last year where Abia was given almost
200 slots but only 53 slots were taken up.
He added that it was the same case in other Southeastern
states.
He disclosed that his team had gone round and held town hall
meetings with traditional rulers and mayors to ensure the message reached the
target audience.
Responding, Governor Otti promised to sensitize Abia youths
for recruitment into the Nigerian Army.
Otti, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb
Ajagba, said that his administration would set up a necessary structure to
ensure that those that fall within the age bracket were regularly sensitized.
“We will help to make sure that Abians, especially the
youths will embrace this opportunity,” he said.
He thanked the Army for providing security in parts of the
country, displaying professionalism on duty and for ensuring that every part of
Nigeria was carried along in its recruitment.
