Landlady arrested after suspected child traffickers posing as tenants kidnapped 4 children just 3 days after renting apartment in Delta community

Monday, April 21, 2025 - The Delta State Police Command has arrested a landlady after new tenants absconded with four children in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.

The uspected child traffickers posing as tenants abducted the children three days after moving into a one-room apartment at the Umuokwe quarters of the community.

The children are Ebube Nwafido,6, her 3-year-old sister, Miracle, and two other girls, Chimanda, 7, and five-year-old Excel alias Tinubu, from different parents.

Community sources alleged that the women lured the children from their homes on the pretence of buying biscuits for them from a shop in the area.

"It was when the children could not be seen around the compound that neighbours expressed concern. By the time the neighbours visited the ladies’ apartment, the room was empty as neither the occupants nor the children could be found,” sources stated

The spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Sunday, April 20, adding that the landlady of the compound has been arrested and is in detention.

“The children were abducted three days after the women rented the apartment. It is true; the problem is that there is no link. They just came and said they wanted to rent an apartment and the landlady gave it to them with no details, no name, no phone number, no agreement and after three days they carried four children. The landlady has been arrested because her actions are suspicious."
