Thursday, April 17, 2025 - The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has strongly condemned the recent spate of killings in Plateau State, describing the attacks as “senseless” and “a grave assault on national peace and security.”
The IGP made the statement following his visit to the state
on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, where he met with key stakeholders and assessed the
security situation firsthand.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public
Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, preliminary investigations have led
to the arrest of two suspects connected to the killings in Bokkos Local
Government Area. The suspects are currently assisting with ongoing
investigations.
In a decisive move to curb further violence and stabilize
the region, the IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in
charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to take charge of coordinating
all police activities in the area. DIG Yakubu has since led aerial surveillance
missions over the affected Bokkos and Bassa areas and has been actively
engaging community stakeholders to rebuild trust and confidence in law
enforcement efforts.
Following a comprehensive review of the situation, the IGP
also ordered the immediate deployment of additional police personnel and
resources to Plateau State. The reinforcement is aimed at enhancing the
police’s rapid response capabilities, patrolling high-risk areas, gathering
intelligence, and deterring future attacks.
The police have also begun on-the-ground assessments for the
strategic deployment of these new resources.
Reiterating the Force’s commitment, the IGP assured
residents of Plateau State that the Nigeria Police Force is working tirelessly
to restore peace and order and prevent further bloodshed. He called on the
public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide any
information that could aid ongoing investigations.
The Inspector-General also extended his heartfelt
condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the
people of Plateau State during what he described as a “deeply troubling time.”
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to bringing all
perpetrators of violence to justice and ensuring the continued safety of
citizens in the region.
