Tuesday, April 8, 2025 - A camera caught the moment a gunman shot a dad de@d through a broken window on residential terraced street in County Durham, England.
The video,
circulated on social media, shows a group walking around Elm Street, in
Stanley, around 5.17pm on Saturday, April 5.
One person
appeared to break the window of a house that opens straight onto the
street.
Another, with
their hood up, reached into their pocket, pulled out a gun and and fired a shot
inside.
It was
followed immediately by a man’s scream and then his son shouting "they
shot my dad" while the attackers ran away. A man and a woman have since
been arrested.
The
60-year-old victim was declared de@d at the scene in the town just south of
Newcastle.
Neighbours
described him as a "lovely guy" who was well known in the community
and "always smiled and said hello".
Floral
tributes have been left in the street where the shooting took place.
Durham Police
said his family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained
officers.
Last night,
detectives arrested a 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman on suspicion of
conspiracy to murder. Both remain in police custody.
Meanwhile,
detectives are still at the scene where a cordon is expected to remain for some
time.
Officers are
knocking on doors to try to gather clues about what happened from those living
nearby.
A 35-year-old
neighbour told The Chronicle she heard a loud bang and saw two young
"men run away.
She said:
"It was really loud. It’s scary to think people can get hold of stuff like
that. You wouldn’t think anyone round here would have a gun."
Police were seen flying a drone at the scene to gather evidence, while the local paper’s reporter said she had also seen officers measuring a hole in a window that appeared to have been "shot out".
