Sunday, April 6, 2025 - Two Chinese nationals and a police officer have been killed during an attack by gunmen who ambushed their convoy in Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA, Abia on Friday evening, April 5.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the command's
spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, said the victims were attacked while on their
way to a company site at Agukwu-Amaya in Ndundu community.
“The
manager, Mr. Quan, his colleague Mr. Cai, and Inspector Audu Saidu, one of the
escort officers, were killed. The assailants also carted away the Inspector
Saidu’s rifle.”
She said a distress report was immediately received,
prompting a coordinated response from the police, the military, and other
security agencies.
“Upon
receiving the information, operatives from the Abia State Command, in a joint
operation with the military and other sister agencies, launched a search
mission. As a result, three Chinese expatriates were rescued unhurt, while one
sustained injury. Inspector Uba Ahmed, who was also rescued, suffered gunshot
injury on his leg.”she said
The police spokesperson said both the injured expatriate and
the police officer were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where they
are currently receiving treatment.
She noted that tactical team operatives led by the deputy
commissioner of police (operations) visited the crime scene on Saturday.
“Through
collaborative action involving police, the military, and local community
members, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday was also rescued unhurt,” Chinaka said.
She noted that investigation is ongoing, and efforts are in
place to track down the attackers and bring them to justice.
Chinaka said that Danladi Isa, the state’s commissioner of police, has
assured the public that the perpetrators will be punished.
“He urged residents to remain
security conscious, go about their lawful activities without fear, and support
the police by reporting any suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities to the
