Thursday, April 3, 2025 - Several motorists were stranded at the collapsed Namne bridge along Jalingo-Wukari road in Gassol LGA of Taraba State following a heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
According to Daily Trust, the downpour washed away the alternative bridge built through
self-help to assist travellers on the road.
The self-help bridge built in place of the main bridge, which
collapsed seven months ago, has been serving as a passage to motorists plying
the road.
Governor Agbu Kefas awarded the contract for the reconstruction of
the bridge last month but the contractors were yet to be mobilized to site.
Motorists plying the road from Jalingo and Wukari were forced to
divert to Garba-Chede town in Bali LGA to continue with their journey.
Motorists who were stranded on Wednesday expressed disappointment
over the failure of the federal government to reconstruct the bridge before the
start of the rainy season.
Bello Adamu, a truck driver said drivers and commuters were not
happy that the bridge was not reconstructed in good time and now the rains have
started leading to the washing away of the alternative bridge.
