Tuesday, April 1, 2025 - OpenAI,, the
Artificial Intelligence company behind ChatGPT, has secured $40 billion in new
funding to advance AI research, scale its computing infrastructure, and enhance
its technology offerings.
The disclosure was made in a blog post on Monday, where
OpenAI said the funding round values the company at $300bn post-money.
The investment will help OpenAI push the frontiers of AI,
with a focus on scientific discovery, personalized education, and enhanced
human creativity.
“Today we’re announcing new funding—$40 billion at a $300bn
post-money valuation, which enables us to push the frontiers of AI research
even further, scale our compute infrastructure, and deliver increasingly
powerful tools for the 500 million people who use ChatGPT every week,” the AI
startup said.
SoftBank Group is among the key investors in the round. “Few
companies understand how to scale transformative technology like SoftBank,”
OpenAI stated.
The company noted that the partnership will support its
long-term goal of developing artificial general intelligence for the benefit of
humanity.
The funding announcement comes barely a week after OpenAI
introduced a major update to ChatGPT, integrating image generation directly
into the chatbot.
The Microsoft-backed firm described the update, which allows
users to create and modify images using GPT-4o, as a significant step toward
making image creation a core part of AI-driven communication.
As part of the rollout, OpenAI showcased a sample image demonstrating improved text accuracy in AI-generated visuals compared to previous models.
