Wednesday, April 2, 2025 - Fifty-one (51) irregular immigrants have been arrested by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at New Nyanya, Karu local government area of Nasarawa State.
The irregular migrants, all Malians, between the ages of 17
and 25, were arrested at their hideouts, following credible intelligence.
The NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi,
explained that 11 of them are females, while the 40 others are males.
According to him, “a preliminary investigation conducted by
the service indicated that the migrants may have been victims of Trafficking in
Persons (TIP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM) as none of them presented any
valid travel document or residence permit during interrogation.”
The NIS Public Relations Officer stated that they had been
taken into the custody of the service and were undergoing further profiling and
investigation.
