Saturday, March 29, 2025 - Some traders in the popular Onitsha main market on Ifejika Street, near Sokoto Road, in Anambra state are currently counting their losses after fire engulfed their shops today March 28.
The inferno, which reportedly started in one building around 6:20 am,
spread to an adjacent building, destroying all items on its way. The cause and
other details surrounding the outbreak are yet to be ascertained at the time of
filing this report.
The head of the media and publicity unit of the Anambra State Fire
Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, who confirmed the incident, said the fire of the
state fire service was immediately deployed to stop the fire.
Videos shared online showed the thick smoke from the fire as it
engulfed the affected buildings.
