Tuesday, March 4, 2025 - Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have abducted the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) along with other passengers near Kamuya village on the Damaturu-Biu road in Yobe State.
Officials from the university confirmed the incident but declined to
comment further. A source told Daily Trust that the professor was returning
from Maiduguri, where he had visited his family, when he was taken. He had a
scheduled meeting the following morning, and his family was aware of his travel
plans. The incident has left the university community in distress.
Reports indicate that the professor was among 30 candidates vying for
the position of Vice-Chancellor at NAUB. A security source disclosed that
suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram elements ambushed travelers on March 2, 2025,
abducting an unspecified number of individuals from two Golf cars and a Borno
Express bus. The source further stated that all female passengers were
released, while the male passengers, including Professor Abubakar Eljuma, were
taken.
Authorities and residents are urging prayers for the victims’ safe
return, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Damaturu-Biu road has seen repeated incidents of abduction and
killings, creating fear among travelers. Five months ago, an academic staff
member from the Department of Building was killed on the same route while
returning from Maiduguri.
