Tuesday, March 11, 2025 - The Gombe State Police Command has successfully prevented a suicide attempt by a 27-year-old man, Mohammed Bello, who climbed an MTN mast at Maimala Buni Street in Gombe Local Government Area and refused to come down.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari
Abdullahi, the police received a distress call through the control room and
swiftly dispatched officers from the Pantami Division to the scene.
Upon arrival, the officers engaged Bello, who claimed he was being
pursued by security agencies over debts he owed two creditors. He stated that
he preferred to end his life rather than face the consequences of his financial
troubles.
The situation was resolved with the intervention of Katukan Gombe, a
respected community leader, who persuaded Bello to climb down, assuring him
that his debts would be settled.
Following the reassurance, Bello complied and safely descended from the
mast.
He was taken into police custody, where his statement was recorded.
The police commended the swift response of officers and the role of
community stakeholders in resolving the matter peacefully.
The Command urged the public to seek lawful and constructive solutions
to financial difficulties, emphasizing that help is always available.
