Saturday, March 1, 2025 - A High Court in Bauchi State presided by Justice
Makama has sentenced a 36-year-old man, Umar Faruq, to five years in prison for
human trafficking and exploiting a 2-year-old child.
The conviction followed a case filed by the National Agency for the
Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Bauchi State Command.
In a statement on Friday, February 28, 2025, NAPTIP confirmed that the
offence violated Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition)
Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
“NAPTIP Bauchi State Command secures conviction! High Court 15 Bauchi,
presided by Justice Makama, sentenced a 36-year-old male to 5 years
imprisonment and a N2M fine for obtaining possession of a 2-year-old for
exploitation, contrary to Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons
(Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015,” the statement read.
"He was also sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and a N1M fine for
facilitating the act, under Section 13(4)(c) of the same Act.
“Both sentences are to run concurrently.”
