Monday, March 10, 2025 - The US Secret Service shot a man following an armed confrontation near the White House early on Sunday morning, March 9.
The incident occurred just minutes from the White House, raising alarm
as law enforcement agents responded to a potential threat, multiple US media
outlets report.
The confrontation took place near the intersection of 17th Street and F
Street NW, approximately a five-minute walk from the White House.
Earlier reports from DC police had warned of a “suicidal individual”
possibly travelling from Indiana, prompting authorities to track down the man’s
vehicle.
The car was located near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which
sits adjacent to the White House.
According to the US Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, when
officers approached the vehicle, the suspect “brandished a firearm, and an
armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel.”
“Thankfully, no injuries were reported among Secret Service agents.”
The man was taken to the hospital following the shooting, but his
current condition remains unclear.
“The status of the individual is currently unknown,” the Secret Service
confirmed.
