American actress, AYO EDEBIRI says ELON MUSK is an 'idiot' for sharing a fake report about her that led to death threats

Thursday, March 13, 2025 - actress and comedian, Ayo Edebiri took to her Instagram story to reveal the harassment she faced after Elon Musk shared a fake report about her potential casting in a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot.

The report, which emerged in February 2024, falsely claimed that Disney was considering Edebiri as a replacement for Johnny Depp in the franchise. Musk's reaction to the report was a simple, “Disney sucks.”

In her post, Edebiri shared Musk's original post, writing: “Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man.” She added, “LMAO. So not only is he double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot but anyway.”

Edebiri also referenced comedian Bill Burr's recent remarks about Musk. Burr, in an interview on NPR’s Fresh Air, roasted Musk, calling him “evidently a Nazi” in response to controversial hand gestures Musk made during Donald Trump’s inauguration. Burr criticized Musk, calling him an “idiot” with “dyed hair plugs and a laminated face,” questioning why liberals were intimidated by him.

Edebiri responded to Burr’s comments with a bullseye emoji, aligning herself with Burr’s criticisms and further condemning Musk for the racial abuse she received following the fake casting report. Despite the rumors, Edebiri confirmed she is not starring in any Pirates of the Caribbean reboot, and the franchise's future remains uncertain.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer did confirm last year that a reboot of Pirates of the Caribbean was in development, with writer Jeff Nathanson working on the script. “He’s cracked it,” Bruckheimer said, praising Nathanson’s work on the third act of the story. However, Bruckheimer’s comments suggested that a reboot would likely rule out Johnny Depp’s return as Captain Jack Sparrow, despite his immense success in the role.

As for Edebiri, the Emmy-winning actress from The Bear will next be seen in A24's horror movie Opus, set to hit theaters on March 14.
