Saturday, March 8, 2025 - The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 69-year-old man and his 17-year-old accomplice for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
The suspects were allegedly transporting the weapons to Kaduna.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, officers from
the Dragon Patrol Team 02 intercepted a navy blue Sharon Space Bus with
registration number DKA 408 LM (Kaduna) near the National Open University in
Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of seven pump-action guns
and 1,600 cartridges concealed beneath the back seat.
The prime suspect, identified as Yahuza Magaji, allegedly claimed to be
a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). He reportedly admitted to
purchasing the firearms in Onitsha, Anambra State, and planned to transport
them to Kaduna.
