Friday, February 21, 2025 - A police sergeant, Ngudumane Hamlet Mahlalela, of the South African Police Service (SAPS), appeared before the Protea Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 20, for the murder of his wife.
It is alleged that Mahlalela fatally shot his wife, Jane Mashudu
Mahlalela, also a member of SAPS, on 14 February 2025 at their home in Protea
Glen, Soweto.
The accused was allegedly heard by family members arguing with the
deceased about her not having slept at home the previous night, and they later
heard a gunshot.
The accused disappeared from the scene, taking along a minor
child.
He was on the run until he handed himself over to Moroka SAPS on 18
February 2025, whilst the minor child was found at his aunt’s place.
The case was postponed to 25 February 2025 for a formal bail application
hearing.
