Saturday, February 8, 2025 - Authorities in Kebbi State, northern Nigeria, have confirmed the killing of one person and injuries to several others following an attack by gunmen on Gulma town in Argungu Local Government Area.
Local government chairman, Hon. Aliyu Sani Gulma, told the BBC that the
assailants invaded the town around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, armed with deadly
weapons.
“The attackers arrived on seven motorcycles, each carrying two people,
including two armed women. They headed straight to a major wholesale shop owned
by Alhaji Fatawu and demanded money,” he said.
He explained that while the two women stood guard at the shop’s
entrance, holding guns, the male attackers entered to seize cash.
“They told the shopkeepers they were looking for Saifa (a foreign
currency) rather than naira. However, since there was little Saifa available,
they resorted to beating the shop attendants before looting all the money in
the store and fleeing,” Gulma recounted.
He added that the attackers killed one resident and left several others
injured before escaping.
