Friday, February 28, 2025 - Terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, have attacked a commercial vehicle along the Maiduguri-Banki road in Borno State.
One person was injured, while the driver of the vehicle was abducted
during the attack.
A counter-insurgency expert for Lake Chad, Zagzola Makama, said the
attack occurred on February 27 at about 1:15 p.m. around the deserted village
of Tufa in Banki Local Government Area.
Speaking to the publication, the driver of the vehicle, with
registration number Adamawa JMT 994 YR, Bello Abba, said he was transporting
six passengers from Maiduguri to Banki when gunmen on motorcycles emerged from
the bush and opened fire on his vehicle.
In an attempt to escape, the driver made a U-turn back to Banki town.
However, during the attack, a passenger, Mohammed Ali Yaye, 38, of Bama
town, was shot in the left leg.
The terrorists also abducted another driver, whose identity remains
unknown.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai later arrived at the scene, but the
attackers had already fled.
The injured victim was initially treated at the Primary Health Care
Center (PHCC) in Banki before being referred to the General Hospital in Mora,
Cameroon, for further medical attention.
