Monday, February 10, 2025 - Nigerian Army troops have eliminated 44 bandits and injured over 25 others in a coordinated operation across multiple locations in Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted under Operation FANSAN YANMA as part of
TSAFTADAJI III – Phase 2, targeted key terrorist strongholds in the Mashema
general area, known to harbor armed insurgents and criminal networks.
The development was contained in a statement issued by security analyst
Zagazola Makama on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday.
“Troops of 1 Brigade Special Forces, with close support from the Air
Component of OPFY, launched a three-pronged assault on terrorist enclaves in
Mashema, Kashabawa, Bwarare, and Zaki,” the statement read.
According to Makama, the offensive began at 0800 hours on February 7,
2025, with troops advancing through heavily fortified bandit positions.
“Upon reaching Sakarawa Hill, troops encountered stiff resistance, with
terrorists planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the advance
route,” he disclosed.
To counter the threat, the Nigerian military executed a flanking
maneuver and launched a decisive ground and air assault, striking terrorist
positions and inflicting heavy casualties.
“The Air Component of OPFY delivered precision strikes, neutralizing
several insurgents,” Makama stated.
Despite the fierce battle, no casualties were recorded among Nigerian
troops.
However, among the 44 terrorists eliminated were key commanders linked
to notorious bandit leaders Bello Turji and Sani Black.
The slain commanders include Sanni Bammuwa, Kachallah Auta (formerly
deputy to Sani Black), Audu Gajere, Kabiru Jangeru, and Dan-Kane (son of Audu
Jabbi).
Makama noted that another operation was conducted in Badarawa, where
troops encountered resistance but successfully cleared terrorist pockets along
their route.
